At BRIEO, we take priority in sourcing materials that are good for both you and the planet.
We source all our materials and packaging from Europe, prioritising Irish sources where we can to minimise our carbon footprint.
All of the wax used is a coconut rapeseed blend, free from paraffin, palm oil and synthetic material.
Our wax is 100% vegan and plant based, it is a harder wax and because of this has a much slower burn rate than other standard waxes. Our classic 235g candle has a burn time of over 60 hours.
We chose coconut rapeseed wax for numerous reasons.
- While soy candles are also vegan and plant based, the increased demand has led to deforestation in areas where it is grown to establish new fields for it to be grown.
- While paraffin waxes are the standard for most candle companies, whether it be 100% paraffin wax or a mixture with a natural wax, it is a byproduct of the oil industry and as such we have decided not to use it.
- The coconut wax has excellent hot and cold throw (the scent a candle gives off when it is lit vs unlit) while the rapeseed wax has a much lower melt point than other waxes, giving you a luxurious long burn for all your BRIEO candles.
- A clean burn. Natural waxes generally produce little to no soot when burning.
